About Our Free-Range Birds...
Hens free-ranging in the front yard
We have been raising various breeds and species of poultry for over 17 years, and are proud of the flocks we have produced and collected. We have at one time or another kept chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks, pigeons, quail, and peacocks. Strains of our bloodlines can still be found in over 30 states across the U.S., and our show line of Frizzle Cochin Bantams is still in production and winning poultry shows in Washington State.
Our flocks are allowed to range during the day, and are locked in their coops or houses at night due to excessive predator issues that are associated with living on a farm located in the middle of 1,000 acres of forests. Some seasons are better than others regarding our poultry losses, and this is reflected in the amount (or lack thereof) of birds and eggs we offer for sale each year.
Along with a free-range diet, our chickens are fed Nutrena Naturewise 16% Layer and cracked corn (our simple ration: 50 lbs. feed X 50 lbs. corn) year-round. The ducks are fed Nutrena Naturewise 22% Meat Bird, and supplemented with treats such as 16% rabbit pellets and cheap dry cat food for extra meat and vegetable protein during the Winter months.
